General FAQ

Size matters. Follow this guide & you'll nail the right fit every time. 

Never, each chain and pendant we produce is made from a solid Stainless Steel base. The common cause for people having allergic reactions to plated jewelry is most often caused by cheap base metals such as copper and fake "Gold" plating. We only use real 18K Gold PVD and solid 316L Stainless Steel, the highest quality plating available. We guarantee all of our products have the capability of lasting a lifetime with proper care.

All orders are packed and shipped from our Detroit studio, right where the magic happens. Whether you're grabbing a new piece for your rotation or picking up something limited, its coming straight from our hands to yours, no middlemen. 

Orders & Payments

Address changes are time-sensitive. If you’d like to edit the shipping address on your order, please email us at [email protected] as soon as possible and we’ll do our best to accommodate requests. Our customer experience team is available M-F 10 AM - 6PM EST and requests made outside of business hours are not guaranteed. 

Unfortunately, we have a no cancellation policy and all sales are final. Once an order is placed, it is sent straight to our fulfillment team to begin processing. Since we are a small team, processing cancellations would delay the shipping speed for all of our customers. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. 

If you haven’t received your tracking number yet, contact us ASAP at [email protected]—we may be able to make changes to the items on your order, however requests are not guaranteed. Once we respond to your order change inquiry, please get back to us within 48 hours, otherwise we will ship your order out as is. 

Already received your tracking number? You can opt to return or exchange your order once you receive it. 

Once your order is ready to leave our studio, you'll receive an email with a tracking number! The easiest way to track your order is to visit the carrier site and enter in your tracking number for the most accurate and up to date shipment status details. 

Make sure your card’s billing details (such as the security code and billing address) match what you’ve entered into our system. For your security, our system won’t allow a payment to process if the billing information associated with the card doesn’t match. 

If you received an email that your order was cancelled, it's likely due to an invalid address, fraud risk assessment, or issues related to promotional items. Our team tries to reach out in advance of any order cancellations, so make sure you're checking for emails from us regarding these concerns. 

We are unable to make price adjustments at this time. If you're unhappy with your pieces once you get them, you can always reach out to us at [email protected] to initiate an exchange or return. 

To use a promo code, fill your bag and proceed to the Checkout page. Enter the code in the provided “Gift card or discount code” box in your cart and click “Apply”! 

Only one promo code can be applied per order. Please note that our discount codes cannot be used during site-wide sales. Discount codes cannot be applied to pre-orders. 

Shipping

We offer free standard shipping on all U.S. orders over $65 and all international orders over $100 USD. Free shipping eligibility is calculated after any discount codes are applied at checkout. 

Note: Some products may be excluded from this free shipping offer due to weight or size, such as hoodies.

Yes! We ship to most countries worldwide. Read more in our FAQ about international delivery times, and additional duties and taxes that may be charged by Customs. 

Out the door in 48 hours or less. 

Our studio team works to ship orders as quickly as possible to get orders shipped out every day Monday through Friday. Our team strives to ship every order out within 24-48 hours from when you made your purchase. During major sales or drop days it may take up to 1 week due to the major influx of orders and us being a small team, we appreciate your patience.


Please note that we do not ship on weekends and the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day.

Note: International shipping may experience delays at various points en route to your address. We cannot guarantee a specific delivery window for international orders.

Adding Rushed Processing gets you VIP treatment. Your order gets processed more quickly and we'll move you to the top of the list, ahead of everyone else. This doesn't increase your shipping speed, it means we will make sure your package leaves our warehouse before everyone else's. 

Yes! After you place an order, you'll receive an email confirmation with your order number. Your tracking number will be sent to you via a separate email once your order is ready to leave our studio. Please allow at least 1 business day for the tracking information to update before reviewing your shipment status. 

For issues with delivery or tracking, the easiest and fastest way to get a resolution is to reach out directly to the shipping company. Sometimes carriers will prematurely mark shipments as “delivered”, or need additional information from you to complete the delivery. 

If you’re unable to resolve the issue with the shipping company, email [email protected] and we’ll see if we can help! 

All international orders are subject to local customs fees and are your responsibility to pay. Please check your country's customs website for more information on how customs fees are accessed. We cannot change a package's value and are not responsible for any fees incurred. Packages returned due to failure to pay will be refunded minus a shipping and 15% handling fee. 

Returns

We're happy to offer returns on full priced items purchased on thryftydetroit.com, in unused condition within 14 days of delivery. All sale collection items are final sale and are not eligible for returns or exchanges. Similarly, all apparel and limited release items may not be eligible for returns or exchanges. 

Please note: We are unable to cover shipping costs or additional duties and fees charged for international returns. 

An $8 restocking fee will be deducted from your refund for most returns. Exchanges, and returns for store credit will not have a restocking fee deducted. 

Any & all postage costs are non-refundable. If you qualified for “Free Shipping” at checkout on your original order there will still be a fee deducted to cover the non-refundable cost of your original shipping label. 

Items purchased on Instagram or Facebook are only eligible for store credit, not a refund.

At this time we are only able to offer exchange on domestic U.S. orders. If you are trying to initiate an exchange on an international order, please send us an email at [email protected] and we can help you with a return for a refund or store credit. 

For U.S. orders, we're happy to offer exchanges on full priced items purchased on thryftydetroit.com, in unused condition within 14 days of delivery. Once we process your return package, we will send over a draft order with your new pieces, as soon as you pay for shipping we will begin fulfilling your exchange order! 

Note: If you're exchanging for an item of higher value, this cost will also be reflected in the draft order sent to you by our team. If you're exchanging for an item of lesser value, we will send a draft order alongside info for store credit. 

Please keep in mind that we do not hold or reserve product for exchanges. If the new item you are requesting is no longer available at the time your exchange is processed you will be offered an option to switch to an alternate piece.

All sale collection items are final sale and may not be returned or exchanged.

Please note: We are unable to cover shipping costs for any return or additional duties and fees charged for international returns. 

We want to make things right. And because of that, we're happy to offer a Lifetime Warranty. We promise that the jewelry product your receive is free of material and manufacturing defects. 

In order to initiate a warranty claim, reach out to our team at [email protected] with detailed images and descriptions of the damaged item(s). To see if you're eligible for our Lifetime Warranty, please refer to the details below. It is at our teams discretion to determine if the information and details shared are able to qualify for the warranty. 

We will assist in approving your warranty claim and helping to get you a replacement piece if validated. For U.S. orders, in an effort to remain eco-conscious, we ask that all damaged items be returned to us for repair or recycling, from which we will then approve a replacement item. For International orders, please reach out with your claim and we will assist with the next best steps.

For international warranty claims: We’re happy to ship replacements for defective products, but we are unable to reimburse for additional duties and fees that may be charged by Customs as a result. 

Note: If your item is no longer in stock and did qualify for the Lifetime Warranty at time of purchase, we will issue you store credit for the original value you paid for the item, less a non-refundable shipping fee. We will still request the damaged item be returned to us for repair or recycling, from which we will then approve store credit. 

Warranties are eligible to the original purchaser. You must be able to provide the original order number and zip code or customer email. 

The warranty policy will cover clear manufacturer defects such as stone displacement, improper manufacturer assembly, and instances of product arriving damaged prior to use. 

We will also review warranty claims for damaged items such as snapped or broken links on chains and bracelets, damaged or malfunctioning clasps or hinges, and items that fell apart due to manufacturing issues. These claims will be assessed by our team to ensure they do not meet any of our exclusion criteria. 

Exclusions: 

  • Sample sale items, sale collection items, apparel, limited release, and free promotional gift items are not covered under the warranty policy. 
  • Plating fading or enamel wear on rings. 
  • General scratches and wear & tear from customer use. 
  • Discoloring due to improper care (ie. contact with lotions, cologne or perfume, sunscreens, harsh soaps and chemicals, etc.) 
  • Failure or damage caused by improper use or carelessness. 
  • Failure or damage caused by improper storage or maintenance. 
  • The warranty does not cover any lost or stolen items, scratches or wear and tear due to improper use and storage of your product, and any modification to your product done outside of Thryfty. 

If you are exchanging an item instead of returning it, you will not need to pay a restocking fee. The restocking fee is also waved if you are returning an item for store credit or if you're returning an item because it was damaged when it arrived to you. 

Once your return is delivered, we process is at our studio in under 48 hours. Once your return has been checked into our system we will then issue you a refund. If you have not received your refund within 6 business days of your return delivering then please contact us at [email protected]

Free gifts and promo items are usually unlocked with a minimum order value or other threshold, which will be noted when you place your order. If you're returning part of, or all of, your original order and you no longer meet the threshold for the free promo item, then you must return the free item in an unused condition. If you decide to not return the free item then your refund or store credit will have a fee deducted for the value of the free promo item. 

For all BOGO orders we require that all items be returned to receive a full refund. If only part of the BOGO set items are returned, then your refund or store credit will have a fee deducted for the value of the items not returned. 

Don’t worry! We’ll make it right. If you receive an incorrect item in your shipment, please email [email protected] as soon as possible. 

At minimum, make sure you include:

  • Your name & order number
  • Whether you're requesting an exchange or a return

Once you shoot us an email at [email protected], one of our team members will ask you for a few more details. If you add in these details in your initial email it can help us process your request quicker. We'll ask for things like:

  • Pictures showing the condition of all products and the original packaging (specifically the barcode stickers)
  • Whether you're looking for an exchange or a return
    • If an exchange:
      • What item(s) would you like instead?
    • If a return: 
      • Do you want store credit?
      • Do you want a refund to your original payment method?

There's a few reasons that could cause your return package to be refused. The most common are that we have no way to verify delivery of items sent with just a stamp. And, if there is not enough postage, we will unfortunately have to refuse the package. Because of this, we require a tracking number for all return packages.

Materials & Care

Short answer: Materials that wear well, look good, and hold up in your rotation.

We don’t make disposable jewelry. Everything we put out is built to last with smart materials that balance quality and accessibility. Here’s what we use most often:

🔩 Stainless Steel (Most Chains & Pendants)

Tough, tarnish-resistant, and water-friendly. We use 316L Stainless Steel, aka the same stuff they use in cars, high-end Swiss watches, and the steel cages in pro wrestling.

Why 316L? Because if it’s good enough to survive a pile-driver or a car crash, it can handle your day-to-day chaos.

It holds up to daily wear, resists rust, and doesn’t turn your skin green. Even better? It’s way more sustainable, skin safe, and durable than cheap base metals like brass or zinc.

🥇 18K Gold Finish

Our gold pieces start with a stainless steel base, then get vacuum-sealed with a thick, durable layer of real 18K gold. It won’t flake or peel, and it holds up better than other plating methods. 

🧪 Enamel & Resin Details

We use this to add color, gloss, or texture. These finishes are durable, but we don’t recommend getting them wet or exposing them to heat, chemicals, or rough surfaces.

Most jewelry sticks to silver and gold tones, but we’re not here to play it safe. It’s our way of adding personality to pieces, just enough to make them feel a little more like you.

🐚 Freshwater Pearls

Real, sustainably farmed freshwater pearls. No plastic centers, no synthetic coatings. Each one is unique by nature and lightly polished for a smooth, uniform look.

🧵 Custom Apparel

When we make clothes, we don’t print on blanks. We cut and sew our own fits using custom fabric, chosen for durability, drape, and detail. Expect heavyweight materials, long-lasting color, and quality finishes throughout. 

We aim to use high quality materials and finishes, like recycled brushed cotton, that allow us to build items that feel good, hold up, and reduce waste.

For sure! Whether it's a chain, ring, bracelet, or another piece, our stainless steel jewelry is water-friendly and made to keep up with real life, whether you’re getting ready for the day, hitting the beach, or just forgot to take it off before the shower.

🛁 Built for wear, not worry

Most of our pieces are made from high-quality stainless steel, which means they’re naturally water-resistant, tarnish-resistant, and built for everyday wear. Showering with your chain occasionally won’t ruin it but we still recommend keeping it dry when you can.

Why? Water itself isn’t the problem, it’s what’s in the water. Things like chlorine, hard minerals, or soaps can leave residue over time and dull the shine. That said, plenty of our customers wear their chains 24/7, and they still look great.

TL;DR: Stainless steel = tough stuff. But treating it right keeps it in your rotation longer.

🥇 What about gold?

If you've got a gold piece from us then it's vacuum sealed with a thick, durable layer of real 18K Gold. That gold finish holds up well with normal wear, but over time and with heavy exposure to water or chemicals, it might slowly fade. It's not fragile but it's not invincible either.

If you want that gold tone to last as long as possible: dry storage > daily showers.

⚠️ A few pieces need special care

Some of our jewelry includes materials like enamel, pearls, or resin. These shouldn’t be exposed to water, especially hot water or soap. Check out our guides on special care pieces if you're not sure what your chain has going on.

🧼 Final tips

  • Wipe it down with a soft cloth now and then.

  • Don’t store it in the bathroom (humidity wears everything out).

  • If you’re hitting the pool, beach, or gym. It can handle it but maybe leave it off.

Yep, they're real! We use farm-grown freshwater pearls, sourced from sustainable farms that offer an ethical, cruelty-free alternative to traditional saltwater pearls. 

Each one is unique by nature, but we lightly polish them to get that clean, smooth look you see in our pieces. No synthetic coatings, no plastic centers, just layers of real nacre (that’s the naturally shiny stuff pearls are made of).

❓Noticed a chalky spot or a flake? That’s just a deeper layer of the same material. Real pearls form in layers, and sometimes the inner surface has a different texture or finish than the outside. Totally normal.

Care tips:

  • Keep ‘em dry: No showers or pool dives.

  • Avoid lotions, perfumes, and sweat-heavy situations.

  • Wipe gently with a dry cloth when needed.

  • Store solo in a pouch or soft box (not jumbled in a tray).

As part of the Mob Loyalty Rewards, we offer a Surprise Birthday Reward! Only the customer who originally received the reward is able to redeem the gift and you must be logged in to your account when you place your order. 

You'll have 1 month to use it after we send it to you!
